Jenni M. Wise PhD, MSN, RN., Assistant Professor

University of Alabama at Birmingham, Birmingham, Alabama, USA.

Dr. Wise is an Assistant Professor of Nursing at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Her research interests emphasize reducing the impact of adverse social conditions (e.g., poverty, discrimination, and isolation) on health and quality of life outcomes among people living with HIV and other marginalized and underserved populations.

Her previous research has focused on understanding how structural, psychosocial, behavioral, and clinical factors intertwine to contribute to increased risk for chronic health conditions, with a focus on identifying pathways to reduce stress-related cardiovascular risk. Her long-term goal is to develop expertise in behavioral interventions to build resiliency to environmental stressors and reduce the negative impact of chronic stress on cardiovascular disease risk among women living with HIV and other populations at risk.

Dr. Wise has expertise in quantitative and qualitative research, the epidemiology of cardiovascular disease among women living with HIV, and the structural and psychosocial factors characterizing the HIV epidemic in the Southern United States. She frequently reviews for peer reviewed journals related to her expertise at the intersection of social determinants of health, psychosocial health, and cardiometabolic health.
