Robert Alan Sloan Ph.D.

Kagoshima University Graduate School of Medical Sciences, Japan.

Dr. Sloan works as public health and exercise medicine researcher and practitioner with twenty-five years experience in the academic, private, and public sectors combined. He serves for fifteen years in Japan and five years in Singapore focusing on obesity, physical activity, mind-body exercise, metabolic fitness, and mHealth. He is an experienced epidemiologist, experimental researcher, and practitioner. Dr. Sloan holds a current tenured position in the faculty of medicine with Kagoshima University Graduate Medical School. He also has positions at the Sri Institute for Advanced Research (Institutional Research Ethics Committee) India and Sagara Hospital (Clinical Exercise Physiologist), Japan.

He trained at the Ochsner Heart and Vascular Institute in New Orleans, LA, and the Cooper Institute for Aerobics Research in Dallas, TX. He worked for the U.S. Navy Public Health Centre in the USA/Japan and the Singapore Ministry of Health and completed a Ph.D. in Public Health, MA in Exercise Science & Health Promotion, and a B.A. in Psychology. Licensed Clinical Exercise Physiologist (LSBME & ACSM), and a Certified Community Health Education Specialist (NCHEC).

Dr. Sloan’s research interests include health-related physical fitness and health outcomes, fitness Science, epidemiology, exercise science, physical activity, health and fitness, exercise and physical activity for health, health outcomes, physical fitness, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, health behaviour change, waist circumference/height ratio, and HRQoL health related quality of life.
