Prof. Tan is Professor of internal medicine and Dean of Shantou University Medical College. He is a member of Guangdong Medical (internal cardiovascular medicine) Leading Talents, Academic Leader of clinical medicine at Shantou University, a key discipline with advantages in Guangdong province, and internal cardiovascular medicine at The First affiliated Hospital of Shantou University Medical College, both a key discipline and key specialty in Guangdong province.

Prof. Tan presided seven projects of National Natural Science Foundation of China and is the first author or the corresponding author of over 150 papers, including 86 papers listed currently in SCI. He now serves as Associate Editor-in-Chief of China Medicine, Journal of Practical Electrocardiology, Grey Systems: Theory and Application, and The Journal of Grey System.
