Roberto Manfredini M.D., Ph.D., Professor

Professor Manfredini is full professor of Internal medicine at the University of Ferrara, and Head of the Clinical Medicine unit at the General and University Hospital of Ferrara, Italy.

He is a leading scholar in the field of Clinical Chronobiology, member of the International Expert Panel on Takotsubo Syndrome, Fellow of the European Federation of Internal Medicine, recognized among Top Italian Scientists (TIS) in the list collecting the most impactful Italian scientists and scholars from all over the world. He is evaluator of national projects on behalf of the Italian Ministry, and evaluator for international projects and University ranking programs.

Prof. Manfredini has devoted decades of studies in the field of Clinical chronobiology, and it has been considered a forerunner of chronopathology, as a first step towards a personalized timed therapy (chronotherapy). He had conducted systematic researches to investigate the time of onset of acute diseases, mostly cardiovascular, eg, myocardial infarction, stroke, pulmonary embolism, rupture and dissection of aortic aneurysms, Takotsubo syndrome, but not exclusively.

More recently, he has devoted his attention to the desynchronizers of circadian rhythms, such as shift work, Daylight Saving Time and Light-at-Night (LAN), and their effects on human health. In 2022, he has been recognized by Expertscape among world’s top experts in the field of ‘Circadian rhythm’.
