Dr. Xie is Director of National Health Commission Key Laboratory of Diagnosis and Treatment on Brain Functional Diseases in The First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University. He is the 3rd and 4th Chairman of China Neurologist Association of Chinese Medical Doctor Association, Outstanding Contributor of the Ministry of Health, member of the 6th and 7th Subject Review Group of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council.

Prof. Xie is a leading scholar of the National Key Discipline of Neurology. He is Chief Scientist of 973 Program and 863 Program of Ministry of Science and Technology, National Key Research and Development Project, International Cooperation Project of National Natural Science Foundation of China, and 8 other National Natural Science Foundations. He was honored with National Innovation Award, National Scientific and Technological Progress Award, Chinese Medical Scientific Award, Wu Jieping Medical Award, and Scientific and Technological Progress Award in Chongqing.

Prof. Xie is chiefly engaged in the basic and clinical research on cerebrovascular disease and neurological diseases comorbidity with affective disorders. He is one of most cited researchers in neuroscience. In recent years, as the corresponding, he has published over 340 SCI papers in the journals of The New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, World Psychiatry, JAMA Psychiatry, Molecular Psychiatry, Science Advances, Brain, Stroke, etc. He also has led translational research in the diagnosis of depression, and holds 7 patents in these fields.
